Turn a PDF into clean plain text
Every line in reading order, page by page, as a simple .txt file.
PDF to Text now — free →Bindery reads the PDF’s text layer, reassembles the lines in visual reading order and writes one clean .txt with a marker per page. It is the fastest way to get a document’s words into an editor, a script or anywhere plain text is welcome.
For an editable document with formatting, use PDF to Word instead; for pure content, .txt is the honest, universal format. Bindery runs entirely in your browser — your file is never uploaded, so there is nothing to delete from a server afterwards.
How it works
- Drop the PDF and open Extract text
- Bindery collects the text layer in reading order
- Download the .txt — one marker per page
Questions people ask
What about scanned PDFs?
A scan has no text layer, so there is nothing to extract yet — run the local OCR tool first, then extract text from the searchable result.
How is this different from PDF to Word?
PDF to Word builds an editable .docx with headings and paragraphs. PDF to Text gives you the raw content as plain text — no formatting, maximum portability.
Is my document uploaded to convert it?
No. The text extraction runs entirely in your browser and the .txt is assembled on your device.
