Type your watermark — CONFIDENTIAL, DRAFT, a client name — and watch it appear live on an actual render of your first page. Choose diagonal or straight, three sizes, three strengths, gray or red. When it looks right, Bindery draws it into every page of the PDF.
The stamp is drawn into the document itself as real content. Bindery runs entirely in your browser — your file is never uploaded, so there is nothing to delete from a server afterwards.
How it works
- Drop your PDF and open Watermark
- Type your text and tune layout, size, strength and color on the live preview
- Stamp every page and download
Text or image, previewed on your page
Type the watermark — CONFIDENTIAL, DRAFT, a client name, a date — or pick an image such as a logo, and see it on a real render of your first page before anything is written. Choose a diagonal or straight layout, one of three sizes, three strengths from a faint background mark to unmissable, and grey or red for text. When it reads right, Bindery draws the mark into every page as page content, so it appears in every viewer and survives printing, and the file stays as small as it was.
- Drafts and proposals: DRAFT or NOT FOR DISTRIBUTION across the page.
- Confidential material: the recipient’s name, so a leaked copy shows who it was sent to. See watermark a PDF as confidential.
- Branding: a logo image at low strength on every page of a report.
What a watermark does and does not do
A watermark is a visible marker, not protection. It discourages casual reuse and identifies copies; it does not stop a determined person from covering it, and it does not restrict opening or printing. For access control use Protect, which encrypts the file with a password and can restrict printing and copying. For a mark that must be provably permanent, flatten adds nothing here — the watermark is already page content — but certifying the file afterwards proves it has not been altered since.
Watermarking in the browser versus uploading
| Watermark PDF | Bindery | Upload-based tools |
|---|---|---|
| Where the file is processed | In your browser tab, on your device | Uploaded to the service’s servers |
| Preview | On a real render of your page | Often a generic preview |
| Kinds | Text or image; layout, size, strength, colour | Varies |
| Confidential documents | Never leave the device | Uploaded, retained for a period |
| What exists afterwards | The original and the new file, both on your device | A server copy until the retention window ends |
| Works offline | Yes, once the app has loaded | No |
Questions people ask
Can I preview before committing?
Yes — the preview renders your actual first page with the watermark exactly as it will be stamped.
Does the watermark cover my text?
It is drawn translucent at the strength you choose, so the page stays readable underneath — Light is subtle, Bold is unmissable.
Is my document uploaded?
No. Watermarking runs entirely in your browser.
Can I remove a watermark later?
Not with Bindery — the mark is drawn into the page content. Keep the unwatermarked original; the tool never modifies it.
Can I watermark only certain pages?
Watermark applies to every page. Extract the pages to be marked, watermark them, then Mix pages to put them back in sequence.
Does the watermark increase file size?
Text watermarks add almost nothing. An image watermark adds roughly the size of the image you chose; keep logos small and compress the result if size matters.
