It does not stop anyone from reading, copying or forwarding the file; Protect adds a password that every viewer enforces, and Redact removes text that must not be seen at all. A watermark also cannot identify who leaked a copy unless it carries a name — type the recipient’s name or a reference number instead of a generic word when that matters. The stamping runs in your browser, so the confidential document is never uploaded in order to be marked confidential.

Questions people ask
Can the watermark be removed by the recipient?
It is drawn into the page content, not added as an annotation, so it cannot be deleted with a click the way a comment can. A determined editor with a PDF editor can still alter page content — a watermark is a label, not protection, which is why Protect and Redact exist for the cases that need them.
Will the stamp make the pages hard to read?
No. It is drawn translucent at the strength you choose — Light is a faint diagonal, Bold is unmissable — and the live preview shows the real first page with the stamp exactly as it will be applied, so you can judge legibility before committing to every page.
Can I stamp a name or a date instead of a word?
Yes — type anything. For per-recipient copies, type the recipient’s name; for a date, filename or page number in a header or footer, use Header & Bates, which has tokens for those and six positions. Both draw real text into the page on your device.
