Pairs are made one to one, best first, so two identical charges on one day each take their own receipt. The result comes in three tabs. Matched holds the pairs; a charge up to 25% higher than a receipt from the same merchant is matched with the flag “tip?”. Currencies are not converted, so a receipt paid in another currency usually lands in Receipts without a charge; a charge within 3% of a foreign receipt’s printed amount is flagged “FX?” for you to check. Both stay in Matched with the flag, so you can check them. Receipts without a charge are often cash. Charges without a receipt are the charges to find a receipt for, or to leave out as personal, and they come out as their own sheet, Missing receipts. Nothing is uploaded.
How it works
- Drop the receipts and the statement PDF together, and check that each PDF is marked as a receipt or a statement
- Read the three tabs and check any match flagged “tip?” or “FX?”
- Download expenses.xlsx with its Statement match and Missing receipts sheets, and find the receipts still missing
Questions people ask
How do I know the statement was read correctly?
Its printed running balances are checked against its transactions, as in Bank statement → Excel. A statement whose printed running balances all agree reads “reconciled”, one with a mismatch names the row, and a card statement with no running balance reads “unverified rows”. With unverified rows, compare the statement’s own total with the charges before relying on the Missing receipts list.
Why is a receipt in Receipts without a charge?
Most often it was paid in cash or with another card, or its charge posted more than 5 days after the receipt’s date or falls on the next statement. A receipt paid in another currency usually lands there too, because amounts are not converted. A date read with day and month the wrong way round can also keep a receipt out of the 5-day window, so check the date against its crop.
Are my statement and receipts uploaded?
No. The statement is read and checked, the receipts are read and the matching is done in your browser tab; nothing is sent anywhere, which matters for a file with your card number and every purchase you made. The whole report counts as 1 of your 3 free jobs a day.
