The technical frame is the easy part. The DV rules about the picture itself — a recent photo, a plain white or off-white background, the head’s size and position, no glasses — are about the photo you take, so check the official instructions before you frame it. Everything here runs in your browser tab: the photo is never uploaded.
How it works
- Choose the photo — the EDV rule, 600 × 600 pixels and at most 240 KB, is already chosen
- Frame your head in the square
- Make the JPG and download it for the entry form
Questions people ask
Is the DV photo the same as the DS-160 photo?
The technical frame is the same — square 600 × 600 pixels, JPEG, at most 240 KB — so the same tool serves both. The DV program adds its own rules about recency, background and head position; check the official instructions for those.
What if my photo is over 240 KB anyway?
Bindery searches quality settings until the real file fits under 240 KB and tells you which one it used. If even the lowest setting is over — rare for a single photo — it says so rather than passing off an over-limit file.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. The crop, resize and size search run in your browser tab, and the photo never leaves your device.
