No AI model fills in the blanks. Every value comes from a box on the receipt, and clicking the cell shows that crop, so a misread 8 that should be a 3 is easy to spot and type over. A row whose amounts do not add up to the total turns red, a value OCR was unsure of is amber, and two receipts with the same date, amount and merchant are flagged as a possible duplicate. Pick a category for a merchant once and it is filled in next time. Download expenses.xlsx, with sheets by category and of checks, a CSV, and expense-pack.pdf with every receipt on its own page. Photo receipts use the free OCR pages, 5 a day, and the photos never leave your device.
How it works
- Photograph each receipt flat, one per photo, and drop the photos here
- Check the grid — click a cell to see its crop — fix what is wrong and pick categories
- Download expenses.xlsx, the CSV and expense-pack.pdf
Questions people ask
What makes a receipt photo easy to read?
One receipt per photo, flat, in focus and filling most of the frame, on a background darker than the paper so its edges can be found. Faded thermal paper and creases are where OCR misreads digits; the red and amber marks and the crop behind each cell are there to catch that. Bindery does not read HEIC files, the format iPhone photos are in when copied to a computer; set the iPhone camera to “Most Compatible” so it saves JPG, or export the photos as JPG.
How many receipts can I do for free?
Photo receipts are read with OCR and use the free OCR pages, 5 a day; Pro has no limit. Receipts that arrive as PDFs with text are read from that text and use no OCR pages, up to 20 in a report on the free plan. The whole report counts as 1 of the 3 free jobs a day, and on the free plan expense-pack.pdf carries a visible “Made with Bindery” line.
Does it work with receipts in other languages and currencies?
Totals and taxes are found from labels in several languages — TOTAL, AMOUNT DUE, Summe, Total TTC, Importe; VAT, GST, HST, MwSt, TVA, IVA, BTW — and the currency from the symbol or code next to the total. Amounts are not converted: each stays in the currency printed on the receipt, and totals are kept per currency.
