In Chrome on a computer, Chrome’s built-in translator does the work on your device; the first use of a language pair may download a language pack. Elsewhere, or by choice, your own AI key sends the full text of the pages you translate to the provider you chose, after you tick consent, and never to Bindery. Either way the PDF file is not uploaded. Every page is then shown side by side, with flags on numbers that changed, passages left untranslated and words OCR was unsure of, and you can edit any passage before downloading. Scanned pages are read with OCR in 11 languages and use the 5 free OCR pages a day. The result is a machine draft: Bindery does not certify, notarize or swear translations.
How it works
- Drop the PDF — Translate PDF opens with English as the target and the source language detected
- Translate with Chrome on your device, or tick consent to use your own key; then check each page side by side
- Download the English .docx, or the side-by-side review as Word
Questions people ask
Which languages can it translate into English?
Any of the other 38 languages Translate PDF lists, such as Spanish, French, German, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Russian, Hindi, Turkish and Vietnamese. Chrome is asked before you start whether it can do the pair; if it cannot, your own key can. For a scanned PDF, the source must be one of the 11 OCR languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Arabic, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, Russian or Hindi.
How good is the translation?
Good enough to understand a document and a solid first draft, not a finished translation. Machine translation misses context and terms of art, and can drop or change a number. The review flags numbers missing from the English, passages left untranslated and lengths out of proportion, so the doubtful passages are easy to find; read the rest against the original too before relying on it.
Can I get a PDF instead of Word?
Not from Bindery yet. A PDF written from the translation would lose the page-by-page match with the original that the Word file keeps, and for many languages the standard PDF fonts Bindery can use without downloading a font cannot draw the text. Open the .docx in Word, Pages or LibreOffice and save it as PDF there.
