The background, lighting, head position and recency rules are about the photo you take, so check the official photo guidance before you frame it. If your checklist gives different numbers, type them in — pixels and kilobytes are both editable. The photo is cropped and sized in your browser tab and never uploaded.
How it works
- Choose the photo — the UK rule, 600 × 750 pixels and 50 KB–10 MB, is already chosen
- Frame your head in the shape
- Make the JPG and download it for the upload
Questions people ask
Why is there a minimum file size?
A digital photo that is too small — a few kilobytes — can be rejected as corrupted or unreadable. Bindery keeps the best quality inside the range and, when the file would fall under 50 KB, adds empty padding inside the JPG until it reaches the minimum: the picture is identical.
Can I use the same photo for a passport application?
UK passport applications take photos in the same shape and range, but rules differ between services — check each service’s own photo page. The tool’s numbers are editable either way.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. The crop, resize and size search run in your browser tab, and the photo never leaves your device.
